Love Poured Out
Monday of Holy Week | Year C
Apr 14, 2025
We begin together…
With the Sign of the Cross:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Read.
Today is Monday of Holy Week. The liturgical colour is purple.
Our Gospel is from John 12:1-11.
In this Gospel, Jesus is having dinner with His friends in Bethany, just days before His death. Mary, one of His close friends, does something bold—she pours a whole jar of expensive perfume on His feet and wipes them with her hair. It’s her way of showing deep love and honour for Jesus. Judas, one of the disciples, complains that it’s a waste. But Jesus defends Mary, saying she’s preparing Him for His burial. This moment is powerful—it shows how real love for Jesus can be generous, personal, even at odds with how the world expects us to act.
Prayerfully, we read:
“Mary took a pound of costly perfume made of pure nard, anointed Jesus’ feet, and wiped them with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.’”
- John 12:3
Reflect.
Love Poured Out.
Mary gave Jesus everything. An entire jar of perfume was worth a fortune! But she wanted to honour Him. Her love was personal, extravagant,. She wasn’t concerned with what others thought. She only cared about showing Jesus what He meant to her. Judas saw waste. Jesus saw worship. Sometimes real love for Jesus won’t make sense to others. It might even feel costly. But when it comes from the heart, Jesus receives it with joy.
Now, take a moment:
Listen to the song as you reflect on today's image. What stands out to you?
Together, we pray:
Jesus,
help me love You with my whole heart, my whole mind, my whole strength.
I give you my everything.
Amen.
Discuss.
We have spent time with Jesus, now we ask:
What’s something valuable—like your time, gifts, or attention—that you could offer to Jesus out of love this week?
We look forward to praying with you tomorrow.
