Love On Its Knees
Holy Thursday – Mass of the Lord’s Supper | Year C
Apr 17, 2025
We begin together…
With the Sign of the Cross:
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Read.
Today is Holy Thursday. The liturgical colour is white.
Our Gospel is from John 13:1-15.
Right before the Passover, Jesus knows He’s about to die. So He does something unexpected—He gets up from dinner, wraps a towel around Himself, and begins washing His disciples’ feet. This was a job normally done by the lowest servant. At first, Peter is confused and tries to stop Him, but Jesus insists. When He finishes, Jesus tells them, “I’ve given you an example—now go and do the same for others.” It’s a powerful moment. Jesus, the Son of God, shows that real leadership means serving with humility and love.
Prayerfully, we read:
“So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.”
- John 13:14
Reflect.
Love On It's Knees
Jesus had all authority. He was their Lord, their Teacher, their Messiah.
But that night, He knelt down before His disciples. Instead of being served, He served. Peter didn’t get it at first—and maybe we don’t either. But Jesus was showing us what real love looks like. Jesus didn’t just teach love with His words—He showed it with His hands, on His knees.
Now He says to us: “Go and do the same.”
Now, take a moment:
Listen to the song as you reflect on today's image. What stands out to you?
Respond.
Together, we pray:
Jesus,
help me to serve like You,
with humility and love,
no matter the cost.
Amen.
Discuss.
We have spent time with Jesus, now we ask:
What’s one way you can serve someone with kindness, humility, or love, this week?
We look forward to praying with you tomorrow.
